Another change I made this year was that I decided to give starting many of my plants from seed this year. Yes, I've done this before but it's never really been successful because I just never gave it the serious attention needed to really get them off to a good start.
I was planning to do this anyway but when my Greenhouse happened, well you can imagine how excited I was. I started working on the seeds the night before my husband Charles planned to put up the Greenhouse. He had it up and going by a little after lunch.I had a few different containers I planned to use but I mainly used this on from Home Depot. It was only about $8 and had room for 72 seeds. I don't have that much planting space but I decided to plant six of each seed for the specific plants I wanted to get an early start on.
I bought some of the seeds locally at Home Depot but there are a few that I bought from Annies Seeds online.
I started the following seeds in the seed tray:
I started some Butterfly Plant seeds and some seeds Charles and I bought in the Italian Alps. I just call them the Alpine Flowers since I can't read the name in Austrian. lol
I used a Rotisserie Chicken package to start the Alpine flosers and a baking tin with lid for the cornflowers. Even thought it seemed like a really great container, I wont use the Rotisserie container again because it's too hard to get the out and replanted without harming the little seedlings.
Once the Greenhouse was finished and ready, I started moving in! I set up the heating mat and the plant lights and placed the newly planted seed trays on the shelving.
We put some of the bags of sand, pebbles and dirt to make sure the greenhouse is stable and won't blow over. I'll update in a few days on the seedling's progress.
